ratty shoes
words & music by moore, j boyce & m boyce

I was born into a family not blessed with worldy things
we made out well with what the lord had chose
with a story and a laugh - the days went rolling past
and i'll tell to you a tale that no one knows

on a holy day one may in a bog near carnaclay
i laid my swollen head among the yews
my pillow was a rock when i woke up to the shock
and found the fairies left these ratty shoes.

chorus
these ratty shoes - they're gonna take me
gonna take me from my worry and my woe
these ratty shoes - they'll not foresake me
and the grass beneath my feet will never grow!

well i staggered from this state and did not hesitate
i laced 'em up and rambled near and far
you may think that i've gone mad but i swear they're not so bad
sure they're better than the ones i had before.

so i wore to the ball in the castlecourt dance hall
to waltz with me the girls would form a queue
and i'd glide around the floor as the crowd would cheer for more
sure i looked like flatley wearing ratty shoes
chorus

well i never had to think about a job or pay for drink
i lived the rover's life from sea to shore
and a wife is not for me why buy the cow when milk's for free
and there's whiskey flowing out of every door.

when at last i finally woke found out twas all a joke
i shook and shaked the remnants of the booze
but the memory of that dream make me heart just wanna scream
them brilliant filthy magic ratty shoes.......................
chorus

carry on
words & music - pg moore

left alone for 50 years memory nearly faded
to rot beneath unconsecrated ground.
we are spared and live our lives - you were chose to give yours
i sing the final words that you wrote down

(chorus)
carry on! - no matter what the odds against you..
carry on! - no matter what they say against you family name.
though the road is paved with bitterness and galant men are few
carry on my friends until that certain day.
carry on !

dark september '42 they were caught in the big one
but their misfortune only gave us light...
to see the chains of bondage gone forever and forever.
tom williams walked against and orange sky.

chorus

climb upon the gallows wall you know your days are numbered
but you're the one that we would sacrifice.
holy vigils kept outside by those who love and hate you.
close your eyes and make your peace with christ .
but will you??

chorus

don't run away
words & music by m boyce

What is life but an endless situation where the hours seem to shorten with each
day,
And maybe think that the sunshine that you wake to might also have a couple
words to say,
Don't lie in the gutter when things aren't going right
Cause there always going worse for someone else
Get out of bed, knock down the walls before you
No one else can do it but yourself

CHORUS
Don't run away, cause there's nowhere left to hide
Reality will always track you down
Don ,t run away, the strings are still attached
Once you finally get where you are bound - don't run away

Don't ever think that the house your in is empty, cause there's a staircase
that you never knew was there
And at the top is a door that's gonna lead you to a carpet that will take you
anywhere
Maybe a booty call or an island paradise
Or maybe it's a castle on the moon
Some keys to play on and a book to write your thoughts
You'll see life will slowly change your tune

chorus - into reel

jig junk
words by pg moore
music by moore, mcgroary & j boyce

back in the day north catholic high
collar & jacket a real wide tie
hangin' on corners - we try to be fly
they never knew bout the gig on the side.

after school in my teenage years
pushin and pulling and playing by ear
mixing the music with rock and with punk
reeling a feeling called reel jig junk

chorus
jig junk .......... gotta be funky
jig junk .......... no shoein' the donkey
jig junk..........  slappin' the monkey
getting my fix i'm a reel jig junky

planxty, moving hearts, stockton wing
chieftans, furey's  an irish thing.
never on FM in my old car
the commodore barry's or emmett's bar

starts with a tune could be centuries old
backin' a beat from a celtic soul
never will take over VH1
who cares!   we want jig junk!
(chorus)

verse
the music was here - was always around
usually hidden or under the ground
spirit was missing just couldn't be found
somebody finally played with the sound

smokin' & drinkin' and writing on walls
playing the tunes at the parish halls
fiddle dee die - fiddle dee punk
jiggity jiggity jiggity junk

chorus 2X

matter of opinion
words & music by m boyce

Last night as I lay dreaming of better days gone by,
My thoughts were turned to anger as the world was asking why
Questions flew inside my head as I thought about past years
Then pipers calling on the sand soon swept away my fears

I thought of many reasons that led their lives to this
But never could that justify their one and only kiss
Her luck had seemed to run out or maybe it was mine
So now I look for answers that no one ever finds

chorus
It's only a matter of opinion, but the world keeps on turning just the same
When the time it comes for me to go I'll bid you all adieu
But I'm happy now just being here with you

The books they taught me nothing and the tube was even worse
Old pictures & the good times soon faded by the curse
The less I tried to struggle with the history and pain
The more and more I realized the world would never change
chorus to instrumental

My days are now spent traveling not to cities or to towns
But to places I have never been within my own bounds
I'll need no map or compass just an open frame of mind
And maybe you will see me there if you ever find the time
chorus

opportunity knocks
words & music by m boyce & mcgroary

When I was young I never did a thin, but sat around with my six-string
Singing songs about the peace I found, until that day when she came round
She would strut her stuff like a movie star,
The band would stop when she walked in the bar
I'd shiver and shake when she looked my way,
Her eyes would kill the words that
you were gonna say

chorus
Cause good things come to those who wait,
Please tell me baby it's not too late
Father Time is lookin at his clock,
And baby I'll be ready for you
When opportunity knocks

I'd laugh at the guys that she'd ignore,
Maybe I was just was she was looking for
Fate came round and gave me the chance, But I'm a guy of cheap romance
Could I be what she deserved, Some 80 proof and instant nerve
Now the perfect time to get groovin on -
But like me the night slipped and she was gone

chorus

Bridge:
That smile of hers kept leanin on my mind,
Like some sunken treasure Hook could never find
And as I dreamed about what my life had in store,
I was awakened by some knockin on my door
chorus

the border
words & music by pg moore

verse
open highway thru tir connell
lazy cattle lift their head
been this way a 1000 years
should be nothing here to dread
then i finally face the border
and the landscape doesn't change
but people's minds are then closed tight
all the signs are rearranged
they say my brother's in a foreign country now
i'm walking 16 miles today
hope i live to see the border fade to gray

chorus
and there's a road across the border
and there's a wall that's in my way
keeps in law and order
at least that's what they say
but we can find a way around it
hope i live to see that day
when the border round the heart
melts away..

verse
lonely shadow in a watchtower
sights are fixed on you
no love is found in this cold world
you know the game's divide and rule
but we can change things if we want to
children's future is at stake
so we take things as we give them
and we learn from past mistakes.
making peace is never easy
and there's a price for living free
together make the border just a memory

chorus
and there's a road across the border
and there's a wall that's in my way
keeps out law and order
at least that's what i say
but we will find a way around it
hope i live to see the day
when the border round the heart
melts away..

instrumental to outro

making peace is never easy
and there's a price for living free
together make the border just a memory..

unlike you
words & music by pg moore

putting myself back together
think that i might come outside today.
to ease the painful memory i took those pictures down
every little thing reminds me of your way.

chorus
then i saw her face and i thought out loud
she doesn't look unlike you
i watched her move across the fair
not unlike you at all.
i heard her speak a simple phrase
that didn't sound unlike you.
but unlike you she always comes around..

alarm clock ringing past eleven
eyes wide open wonder who i am
seems like only yesterday i'd wake up to your touch
tomorrow's touch is something i can't have

chorus
then i saw her face and i thought out loud
she doesn't look unlike you
i watched her move across the fair
not unlike you at all.
i heard her speak a simple phrase
that didn't sound unlike you.
but unlike you she always comes around..

bridge
and if i ever find the one to make me whole again
a little piece of you will always stay with me my friend.

then i saw her face and i thought out loud
she doesn't look unlike you
i watched her move across the fair
not unlike you at all.
i heard her speak a simple phrase
that didn't sound unlike you.
but unlike you she always comes around..
yeah and unlike you she never kicked when i was down
yeah  unlike you she always comes around
so unlike you
so unlike you
she's not like you

don't take it for granted
words pg moore
music m boyce

on coffin ships they braved the broad atlantic
by the land and by her majesty betrayed
thousands to the port of philadelphia
in search of honest work for honest pay

so they rose at dawn to try and raise a  family
to teach them right from wrong but never run.
they sweat away their days to carve a living
inside factories that never saw the sun...
don't ever take for granted what they've done
don't ever take for granted what they've done!

II.  when civil  war would jeopardize the country
though they themselves were once the sons of slaves.
beneath the harp and shamrock they joined meagher
and the fearless fighting 69th brigade

so they fought and died from fredericksburg to shiloh
and the wheatfield out in gettysburg they won
they proved themselves as men across this nation
as they charged into the barrel of a gun
don't ever take for granted what they've done
don't ever take for granted what they've done!

III.   the battlefield was back in schyulkill county
where they tried to make the anthracite their gold
but the owners lied and set their weekly wages
at a price that forced them out into the cold

so they fought back hard with fierce determination
as they cut and blasted coal out by the ton
and when they formed an honest miners union
they watched their brothers hanging one by one
don't ever take for granted what they've done!
don't ever take for granted what they've done!

IV.  now we can sit in barooms fat and happy
with the priviledge of the sacrifice they made
still some don't think their history' s worth repeating
but the more things change; the more they stay the same

so remember those who paid the price for freedom
the simple folk who to this nation come
fleeing fear and hopeless desperation
leaving legacies with daughters and with sons.....
don't ever take for granted what they've done
don't ever take for granted what they've done!

WHAT WOULD I DO WITHOUT YOU
words & music by mike o'callaghan

YOU WALK THE WOODS; I PAINT THE TOWN
I'M MOSTLY UP; THEN YOU BRING ME DOWN
YOU SIP CHAMPAGNE AND  I'LL TAKE A BEER
BUT THERE'S A REASON WHY WE'RE STILL HERE

CHORUS
DON'T ASK ME WHY I'LL NEVER KNOW
WHAT IT IS ABOUT YOU
WHEN YOU SAY STAY I JUST CAN'T GO
WHAT WOULD I DO WITHOUT YOU.
WHAT WOULD I DO WITHOUT YOU.

V.2
I LIKE THE COLD BUT YOU MAKE ME HOT
YOUR ALL WORN OUT EVEN  WHEN I AM NOT
I TRY TO SIT BUT YOU MAKE ME DANCE
YOU PLAY IT SAFE THEN I TAKE THE CHANCE.     (CHORUS)

V.3
YOU'RE ALWAYS RIGHT;  I'M ALWAYS WRONG
YOU SAY I'M WEAK  WHEN I THINK I'M STRONG
BUT WHEN YOU'RE HERE AND HOLDING ME
SOME HOW MY BABY WE DO AGREE.             (CHORUS)

INSTRUMENTAL
REPEAT  V. 1
(CHORUS)

slan abhaile
words and music by pg moore

verses
i have not seen your sunny face that used to dry the tears
things around me changing  but our friendship lasts the years
though we may look different now some things just stay the same
like that smile that i smile at the mention of your name.

chorus
slan abhaile!  doesn't mean the end
slan abhaile!  you know we'll meet again
remember that tomorrow love is around the bend
until that day safe home to you my friend

life is better so it seems except that your not here
i'm glad you rang the other night now thoughts of you seem clear
others come and others go - i've no regrets but one
that was the day i went away and left you on your own

chorus
slan abhaile!  doesn't mean the end
slan abhaile!  you know we'll meet again
remember that tomorrow love is around the bend
until that day safe home to you my friend

i journey through this world each day - work from dawn to night
you never stray far from my mind  when will you take that flight
if you don't see or hear from me i'm with you in the end
3000 miles - 6 short hours - soon i'm home again...

chorus
slan abhaile!  doesn't mean the end
slan abhaile!  you know we'll meet again
remember that tomorrow love is around the bend
until that day safe home to you my friend
